Inspiration

I have been collecting images that inspire me and as the list is growing a little I though it time to share some with you.

Over the past year, I have been following a couple of young photographers noticing how they have grown into their photographs, and identifying where some of their strengths and weakness lie.

Daniel Bridge has been a local photographer for many years, and is well know for his macro and nature inspired shots.

During the recent cold snap in the UK he produced, and posted a few snowy scenes that really caught my eye and made me wonder,  “how did he capture that moment?”

I really like the angle, but can feel the solitary that photo seems to represent – well that is what it represents to me. I have taken shots like this in the past and know that they are never easy to come by and you have to have a keen eye to pick this kind of image out of the landscape, especially one that is blanketed in the same colour.  It is also difficult to get the white balance set exactly right, which has been achieved in this shot.

One final image from Daniel is of this lone tree, taken in our local country park.  You can really feel the coldness here, but the tones of orange in the lower right corner of the frame gives hope that warmer days are on the way.

The last snowy image of this batch of inspiration is titled ‘Icy Swan’ .  here, although the image is very white, the mist actually gives me a feeling of warmth, which highlights the majesty of these magnificent creatures.  The composition of this image is okay, but it is a little too busy and maybe, by loosing the crop of rocks in the left of the image, it may elevate this feeling a little.

Another photographer I like to following is an American guy called Eric James, again, as mentioned before, he is someone I have been looking at for a while now and some of he work is really inspiring.

Eric’s main source of imagery comes in the form of portraiture, or more specific engagement and wedding photography – but with a bit of an edge.

I wanted to highlight this image as I really like the way the couple have been captured within the fast moving environment.  Something I would one day like to try myself, but I feel I am still a long way of achieving this kind of imagery!
